Get rainwater away from the house

Overflowing gutters put water onto brickwork, windows and paths below. A blocked outlet, leaking joint or poorly aligned run needs a different fix. We inspect the run and its downpipe to find where the water stops flowing correctly.

Repair the joint or replace the run

Sound guttering with a failed seal calls for a different scope from a cracked or sagging run. We explain the defect and quote for the work it needs, including brackets, outlets and downpipes.

Check the boards carrying the gutter

A gutter is only as secure as its fixings. Loose brackets and rotten fascia boards need attention alongside the rainwater pipework. Ask us to check the roofline at the same visit so the quote covers the cause of the problem.

Restore a clear route for rainwater

  1. Observe the first spill. Notice whether water escapes at a connector or over a long edge. That distinction helps separate a seal defect from drainage restriction.
  2. Follow the complete run. Rain from several roof sections can converge at one outlet. Assess that collection point before deciding how much gutter needs changing.
  3. Prepare the supports. Bracket positions control the gutter line. Sound supports prevent a repaired section from dropping back into a low spot under water weight.
  4. Fit compatible components. Connections need matching profiles and properly seated seals. Forcing unlike fittings together creates a joint that stays under strain.
  5. Check the discharge point. Water must leave the downpipe into the intended drainage. A clear upper gutter cannot compensate for an obstructed destination below.

Spot drainage trouble from below

  • Drips concentrated beneath a connector
  • A low section holding water
  • Green streaks below the roof edge
  • Downpipe clips pulling from masonry

Select the right gutter repair scope

  • Seal and connector work. A serviceable run can remain when its connections are the defect. The seal seat needs cleaning and checking for distortion.
  • Bracket and fall correction. A sound channel needs a consistent route towards its outlet. Repositioning supports addresses dips that trap silt and water.
  • Replacement gutter runs. Renewal suits sections with multiple cracks or incompatible old repairs. Match the channel capacity to the roof area it serves.
  • Downpipe reinstatement. Broken lengths and loose clips need secure replacement details. Bends must lead rainfall away without leaving unsupported joints against the wall.

How long it takes

An accessible connector repair is a shorter task than replacing guttering around several elevations. Long runs need setting out before fitting, and awkward downpipe bends add preparation. Access above a conservatory or glazed porch takes additional planning. The working duration should account for both the rainwater fittings and the supports carrying them.

What affects the price

  • Length of gutter requiring work
  • Profile and compatibility of fittings
  • Downpipe bends and discharge arrangement
  • Height and obstructions beneath runs

Looking after it afterwards

Observe the repaired run during rain from a sheltered ground position. Water should reach the outlet without backing up along the edge. Arrange seasonal removal of leaves and silt, particularly beneath trees. Keep the ground drain visible and clear of garden debris so an obstruction below does not undermine the roof drainage.

Why does my gutter overflow in heavy rain?

Blocked outlets, poor alignment and damaged sections stop rainwater reaching the downpipe. The inspection identifies the obstruction or failed detail.

Do you repair one leaking gutter joint?

Yes. Tell us where the leak is and send a photo from the ground. We quote for individual repairs as well as new guttering.

Can you include fascias in the quote?

Yes. Guttering and fascias are connected parts of the roof edge. We inspect both and set out the agreed work in writing.

Why does water escape only near a downpipe bend?

Debris can lodge where the pipe changes direction. The bend and the section below need checking, even when the gutter looks empty.

Can different gutter profiles connect without a special fitting?

Profiles and seal shapes differ between systems. A compatible adaptor is needed where unlike sections join; sealant alone cannot correct their shape.

Does a dripping gutter prove the roof covering leaks?

Rainwater fittings sit outside the covering. Their leaks need tracing independently before deciding that tiles, slates or waterproof membranes require repair.
